Show #95: Sid Viswanathan, Cofounder of CardMunch

CardMunch for the iPhone

In this show Bob and Pat interview Sid Viswanathan, cofounder of CardMunch, a business card scanning startup presently available on the Apple iPhone. Sid explains how this crowdsource-powered startup structures its work to ensure accuracy, protect privacy and makes Internet-based piecework successful. Sid covers how deferring profitability while A/B testing different pricing models has given CardMunch the time and opportunity to discover the best price points for its service. Sid also explains the approach to selling a mobile App that merits 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tired of being stuck in neutral in your startup? Why not do a MicroConsult with Bob Walsh? Instead of hypotheticals and too much information, Bob will work with you for an hour via Skype developing 8 to 10 specific todos that will get your startup in gear. Details at 47hats.com.

  1. Matt Lacey says:

When listening to the MP3 I can only hear Patrick.

    • Bob Walsh says:

Matt, I just doublechecked -I’m in the show, but this and the last couple of shows (as Eoin) points out have been in stereo. If your device is only piping right or left, that could be it. Needless to say we will go back to the tried and true mono as of the next show.

  2. Eoin says:

    Thanks for the podcast.

I find the stereo in the last couple of podcasts to be a bit disturbing, since I guess I’m so used to lack of stereo. If it were stereo as in that person’s voice slightly stronger in one ear that the other, then it might be more comfortable and natural.

  3. Patrick Foley says:

OOPS! I apologize for the stereo – I’ll try to fix that on the shows we just pushed out. Hope to update by end of week.

    P

  4. Matt Lacey says:

Hadn’t noticed in the last few shows. Must be more obvious in my new headphones.

  5. Skippy says:

Thanks for the follow up in this thread Patrick.

A bit more feedback, splitting the hosts between left and right channel makes it very difficult to listen to. as a result for those of us with different levels of hearing in each ear as well as different volume levels of the hosts and guests. Thanks for improving the mix for future shows! :-)

  6. Peter Olsson says:

Another vote for going back to mono.

Your show is really good so I’ll continue to listen in any case, but going back to mono will make it more enjoyable.

I’m impressed with the different types of startups you manage to get onto the show. The last one is a typical example of a startup that I wouldn’t have considered to read about. After listening to the show I realize that I have learned a lot and even got a different perspective on some things. I even considering to start using the CardMunch app…

    Keep up the good work!
