Show #57 Seth Godin on Linchpins and Startups.

The Startup Success Podcast

The Startup Success Podcast

A very special interview with author and marketing authority Seth Godin on how startups can succeed in a world where fitting in doesn’t work anymore. Seth is the author of a dozen bestselling books including Purple Cow, Tribes, Permission Marketing and most recently and perhaps most importantly, Linchpin.

In this interview Bob and Pat have the opportunity to ask Seth how Linchpin applies to startups, the IT industry, what art means to developers, what keeps you from shipping, what Ayn Rand would say and succeeding in this post-industrial world. And, we get to several of the questions you asked us to ask.

If you listen to just one of our podcasts this year, this is the one.

  1. Seth is talking about recognizing the right thing to do by a lizard brain feeling that her gets when he thinks about it.

I thought about it for a while and developed a similar approach. I wrote a blog post about that called “Path of the most embarrassment”: http://www.sergeychernyshev.com/blog/path-of-the-most-embarrassment/

  2. Miguel says:

Great questions, great answers, good job!
Very inspiring to listen to Seth insights about building successful companies.
The lizard brain, so true that our primitive survival instincts are also the main responsible for our widespread inability to achieve, to ship in time, to fulfill our dreams.
I say no more to avoid spoiling the interview, you must listen for yourself and be inspired.
Thanks Seth, thanks Bob and Patrick

  3. Bob and Patrick,

This is a nice blog post and it’s a pleasure to hear Seth continue to cover the Linchpin topic. Your closing remarks sounded like you guys were 100% in agreement with the mission of Linchpin.

Please join us (and your listeners) to further develop what Linchpin means to us and others. Linchpins unite at http://www.thelinchpinway.com and we would love to have you there too.

    Best,
    Justin

  4. Maksym Shostak says:

In this podcast Seth mentioned Steve McConnell.

Consider inviting him for your next show to ask about project management, upstream and downstream activities,
level of formality, technical debt and other software
development topics for Micro and Small ISVs.

  5. I really enjoyed that you compared success in this economy with Ayn Rands philosophy, rational self-interest.

Great job on this podcast guys!
